The Vehicle Salesperson.

 The Vehicle Salesperson

There are few professions that people map out to be in. Where I come from, every child growing up wants to become a doctor, lawyer or an engineer. A vehicle sales person never comes into the picture.

Just as there is a real estate broker, there is also the vehicle sales person. Whether you go to the dealership showroom or a used vehicle sales center, you will have a salesperson to meet and greet you.

A salesperson is supposed to be well dressed whether male or female. A clean pair of trousers, shoes and neatly ironed shirt either long or short sleeved for a male. Same for a female but the trouser can be replaced by a skirt or a straight dress. A very official look and a suit is optional.

The salesperson must really be very knowledgeable in the brand of vehicle being sold and other brands. With this, the salesperson will have a competitive advantage over competing brands.

Being knowledgeable about the products sold is one thing and being able to communicate that to the understanding of the customer is another. The salesperson should be able to explain everything about the vehicle to the customers. Technical details, financing, warranty and payment packages.

The choice of language does not matter even though it should be the official language. Any language that the customer is OK with can be used. Some customers always like to communicate in the local language.

Just as every person gets a bad day, sales persons do so.  You might visit a showroom, speak to a salesperson and find out that his or his body language is off radar. Just be understanding, they are humans too.

Sales persons are very competitive especially when there are two or more at the same dealership selling the same range of vehicles. They have a long list of sales target to meet. They need to follow-up on clients so that they do not lose them to the other competing brands. They will try to convince you to accept that colour or specification second to your choice, it’s all part of what they do.

Sometimes, prospective vehicle buyers want to get the best deal as possible but remember that the sales person is just the face of the sales department and certain decisions are out of their hands.

So, the next time you visit a vehicle sales showroom, just enjoy your time with the salesperson and ask as many questions as possible.
