On a Trip

On a Trip

As the end of the year approaches, family, friends and colleagues will be making their long trips back home and to holiday destinations.

While other people will go by flight and buses, some will travel with their own vehicles. It is good to travel together as a group as it reduces the number of vehicles on the road, saves fuel and enjoy the company of others.

As you plan to travel in a group or with your pals, there are few things you should do to enjoy your trip.

 Two heads, at least

Two good heads they say are better than one. Anytime you plan to travel in a group, they should be at least two capable drivers in good standing within the group. This is because, they can alternate when the other drives for long hours. Ideally, there should be a 10 to 15 minutes break after every 2 hour drive.

Also, in a case of emergency where the first driver falls sick or anything happens to him or her, the other person can take over the steering wheel. They should make sure that they have their licenses and it has been renewed.

Vehicle in shape

No matter how new a vehicle is or the condition, as long as you plan on going on a trip, you need to take your vehicle to the workshop for maintenance and other checks. Fluids, air condition, tires and others should be checked. You do not leave anything for granted. Fire extinguishers, spare tires, triangles and other safety tools should be checked. Vehicle insurances which are also due for renewal must be renewed.

Maps

It is not always that people travel to home for the festive season. Sometimes we want to go to new places and have new experiences. If you and your friends plan on visiting a place well unknown, get the road maps from your point of departure to the destination. Check out for road blocks and barriers. Also check out for accident hot spots so that you will be extra careful when you get to those points.

Emergency numbers

No matter how well prepared you are for a journey, you can never predict what will happen on the road. For this reason, it is advised that you have contacts of close relatives who can be reached in the case of an accident or any misfortune. Likewise, the numbers of the police, ambulance service and fire service so placed at a visible place in the vehicle.

News and updates

As part of the above points, should be reading about new developments on road constructions and diversions so that you will not find yourself in wrong situations.

These few tips can help in enjoying our trips for the festive season. Stay safe
